if in 9 sec it travels distance equal to its length, then in (27-9) sec, i.e. in 18 secs it travels the length of platform(180m) which tells its speed

DIRECTIONS: The question given below contain two statements giving certain data. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements are sufficient for answering the question? Mark answer-

What is the speed of a running train which takes 9 seconds to cross a signal post?


(I) The length of the train is 90 metres.

(II) The train takes 27 seconds to cross a platform of 180 m.

Options:
A) If statement I alone is sufficient but statement II alone is not sufficient.
B) If statement II alone is sufficient but statement I alone is not sufficient.
C) If each statement alone (either I or II) is sufficient.
D) If statement I and II together are not sufficient.
Solution:
Ans: (a) I. Speed = \(\cfrac{90}{9}\times\cfrac{18}{5}=36 \ km/h\)
