Question is to calculate total investment. So, I think here we have to calculate the cost price of 200 eggs which will be his total investment. Please clarify this.

Question:

A merchant bought 200 eggs, of which 38 got broken. He sold the remaining eggs at the rate of ₹4.80 per dozen and thus gained 8%. The total investment (in ₹) is:

Options:
A) ₹120
B) ₹80
C) ₹60
D) ₹45
Solution:
Ans: (c)

Remaining eggs = 200 – 38 = 162

The S.P. of remaining 162 eggs = \(\cfrac{162\times4.80}{12}=\unicode{x20B9} 64.8\)

C.P. = \(\cfrac{64.8}{1.08}=\unicode{x20B9}60 \)
