Question:
If the earth stops rotating, the value of ‘g’ at the equator will –
Options:
A) Increase
B) Decrease
C) Will remain same
D) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (a) Variation of ‘g’ due to rotation is given by

g = g' – \(\omega\) 2R

If earth stops rotating then \(\omega\) = 0 then

g = g' – 0 = g'

Therefore, the value of ‘g’ increases if the earth stops rotating.

Dear Student,

explanation- If the earth stops rotating then the value of 'g'at equator will increase because when the earth rotates the gravity at every point remains uniform and when it stops rotating, the gravity increases as pressure is exerted on only one point at the equator.
