now,
1000*4 ----------- 1000*4=4000
800*5 ................... 960*5=4800
profit=( 800/4000)*100=20%

This can be solved by successive discount method..they have applied the same but figures are wrong...it would be 20+100/7-20×100/7/100=220/7%dis..
Apply this dis on 140..SP would be 96..CP is 80..profit % is 20

Question:

A shopkeeper marks up his articles by 40%, he gives 20% discount but he cheats by using 20% less weight he also gives 2 articles free by selling every 12 articles. Find the overall profit or loss per cent.
