Question:
If 1x, 5x and 7x are in A.P. and also in G.P. then the value of 'x' is –
Options:
A) 0
B) 1
C) 2
D) 4
Solution:
Ans: (a) 

In AP,


2nd term - 1st term = 3rd term -  2nd term

5^x - 1^x = 7^x - 5^x

2*5^x = 1+7^x

7^x = 2*5^x - 1 _______(1)


In GP,


2nd term / 1st term = 3rd term / 2nd term


5^x  / 1^x = 7^x / 5^x ______(2)


Put the value of 7^x in equation(2), we get


5^2x +1 = 2*5^x _______(3)


Only, x = 0 staifies the equation(3), so, x=0
