The allowance of an employee constitutes 165% of his basic pay. If he receives Rs 11925 as gross salary, then his basic pay is (in Rs.) :

Solution:
Ans: (c)

Let the original salary be x

then,

x + 165% of x = 11925

x + 165 = 11925

      100

100x + 165x =11925

       100

265x =11925*100

x = 11925*100  

          265

x =Rs. 4500

gross salary= basic pay+(165/100) basicpay
=basic salary(100+165/100)
=basic salary *(265/100)
