Question:

A bucket contains a mixture of two liquids A and B the proportion 7 : 5. If 12 litres of the mixture is replaced by 12 litres of liquid B, then the ratio of the two liquids becomes 7 : 9. How much of the liquid A was there is the bucket initially?

Options:
A) 19 litres
B) 22 litres
C) 28  litres
D) 20 litres
Solution:
Ans: (c) \(\cfrac{7x - 7 }{5x - 5 + 12} \ \ = \cfrac{7}{9}\)

63x – 63 = 35x + 49

28x = 112

X = 4

7x = 7 × 4 = 28 lit.
