is there any other method for solving this

Question:

How much water should be mixed in 69 kg milk of Rs.14 per kg such that on selling it at Rs.13.80 per kg, 20% profit may be earned?

Options:
A) 15 kg.
B) 25 kg.
C) 18 kg.
D) 2 kg.
Solution:
Ans: (a)

S.P. of mixture = 13.8

Profit = 20%

\(\therefore\) Cost price =\(13.8\times\cfrac{100}{120}=11.50\)

By the rule of alligation:

Quantity of milk : Quantity of water = 11.5 : 2.5 = 23:5

Let quantity of water mixed be x kg, then

in such question solve for per litre/kg

let us assume ratio of mix of milk to water mix is = X:1

X kg milk CP = 14X / kg

after mix => SP = (X+1)(13.8) /kg

gain = SP-CP ----> [ (13.8X+13.8) - 14X] => [13.8-0.2X]

gain% = (gain/cp) * 100

20 = [(13.8-0.2X)/14X] * 100

solve for X.. ull get X = 69/15.. hence water to be added for 69 Kg milk is 15 kg

(x+69)*13.8= 1.2*69*14
=> x = 15
