Question:
The midpoint of the line segment joining (3,-8) and (x + 2, -2) is (4, -5).What is the value of X?
Options:
A) 3
B) 1
C) 2
D) 5
Solution:
Ans: (a)

Midpoint of (x1, y1) and (x2, y2)

X = (x1 +  x2)/2

4 = (3 + x + 2)/2 

⇒(x+5)/2 = 4 ⇒  x = 3

Dear Student ,
When we find mid point of line segment joining (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) it is = (x1+x2) / 2 , ( y1+y2) / 2
Therefore on applying formula , [3 + ( x+2)] / 2 = 4
x + 5 = 8
x = 3
