Because, according to problem, if x is the average when first person steps on the weighing machine then for the second person, the average should be x+1, similarly after third person it should be x+2. but according to your solution the average weight becomes 3x+5 divided by 3 which is not satisfying the question.
Instead the weights will be x, x+2, x+4, x+6 and x+8. then the equation satisfies and the answer will be 8.

Question:
5 members of a team are weighed consecutively and their average weight calculated after each member is weighed. If the average weight increases by one kg each time, how much heavier is the last member than the first one?
Options:
A) 14 kg.
B) 20 kg.
C) 8 kg.
D) 5 kg.
