a+b= 15 days

here combined work is given so we subract 3.5 from 26.5 to get combined work of a and b togather for 3.5 days

a+b do in 3.5 days = 3.5/15 ie 7/30

now remaing work is 1- 7/30 = 23/30

so 23/30 work done by b in 23 days so complete work done by b is

30 days


now a+b = 15 and b alone is 30 day

a alone = (30 *15)/ 30-15

ie 30 days

Question:
A and B can do a work in 15 days. If A alone works on it for 3.5 days and B completes remaining work in 26.5 days then A can alone complete the whole work in how many days?
Options:
A) 20 days
B) 25 days 
C) 30 days 
D) 40 days

Given answer is correct.
According to Question,
A + B = 15days
we know the A is work for 3.5 days
so A and B are work for 3.5 days
then the remaining work is 11.5
and the remaining work is done by B
so we find the work by = 15work = 23/11.5 *15
= 30
A + B = 15
B = 30
