* Present --> R:S= 2:1-------------(1)
* After 5 years --> R(+5):S(+5)= 3:2-------------(2)
Now, make either both R's equal or S's equal (for example; multiply (1) with 3 and multiply (2) with 2 to make R's equal. Now, they become 6:3 & 6:4
4-3=1 which is =5 years; then 2=10years

Question:
The ages of Ram and Shyam are in the ratio 2 : 1. After five years, the ratio of their ages will be 3 : 2. Their present ages are:
Options:
A) 20 and 10
B) 10 and 5
C) 15 and 5
D) 40 and 20
Solution:
Ans: (b)

Suppose present ages of Ram and Shyam are 2x and x years respectively.

\(\cfrac{2x+5}{x+5}=\cfrac{3}{2}\)

or 4 x + 10 = 3x + 15

or x = 5

Hence, present age of Ram = 10 years

and present age of Shyam = 5 years
