Question:

A solid iron rectangular block of dimension 44 m, 2.6 m and 1 m is cast into a hollow cylindrical pipe of internal radius 30 cm and thickness 5 cm. The length of the pipe will be-

Options:
A) 110 m
B) 112 m
C) 111 m
D) 109 m
Solution:
Ans: (b)
Volume of iron = (440 × 260 x 100) cm3
External radius of the pipe = (30 + 5) cm = 35 cm
= [\(\pi\)(35)2 h - \(\pi\)(30)2 h] cm3
= \(\pi\)h[(35)2 - (30)2] cm3
= (65 × 5) \(\pi\)h cm3
= 325\(\pi\)h cm3
\(\therefore\) 325\(\pi\)h = 440 x 260 × 100
length = h cm = \(\left ( \cfrac{440×260×100×7}{325×22}\ \ \ \ \ \ \right )\)cm
= 11200 cm = 112 m
Hence, the length of the pipe is 112 m.
