Question:
A shopkeeper gives 1 item free with every 15 items and a discount of 4% is also offered to the trader and the shopkeeper still gain 35%. Find how much % did the shopkeeper mark his goods above C.P.
Options:
A) 44%
B) 47.7%
C) 50%
D) 72%
Solution:
Buy 15 get 1 free

discount = Free/Total \(\times\) 100

= 1/16 \(\times \) 100

= 6.25%

Ist discount given = 4%

IInd discount = 6.25 %

Total discount = 10% (by formula = x+y - (xy/100))

Let CP = 100

given P% = 35%

Then SP = 135

M.P.\(\times\) (100 - D%) = SP

M.P. \(\times\) 90% = 135

MP = 150

So MP is 50% above C.P.

its nothing my dear, think this way.....the seller can receive money of 15 articles, at its MP with 4% reduction = 16 article's CP at 35% profit. ie 15 x MP x 96/100 = 16 x CP x 135/100 --> MP = 150% of CP.
