Question:

If a and b are two distinct positive numbers, then which of the following is true?

Options:
A) \(\sqrt[]{a+b}\ \ >\sqrt[]{a} + \sqrt[]{b}\)
B) \(\sqrt[]{a+b}\ \ =\sqrt[]{a} + \sqrt[]{b}\)
C) \(\sqrt[]{a+b}\ \ <\sqrt[]{a} + \sqrt[]{b}\)
D) ab = 1
Solution:
Ans: (c) Let a = 16 & b = 9

Option (a) : LHS = \(\sqrt[]{16+9}=5\)

RHS = \(\sqrt[]{16}+\sqrt[]{9}=7\)

Hence, option (a) is wrong.

Option (b) : LHS = \(\sqrt[]{16+9}=5\)

RHS = \(\sqrt[]{16}+\sqrt[]{9}=7\)

Hence, option (b) is wrong.

Option (c) : LHS = \(\sqrt[]{16+9}=5\)

RHS = \(\sqrt[]{16}+\sqrt[]{9}=7\)

Hence, option (c) is the correct option.
