how 168.54 came and 2809 also

Question:

If a  principal at compound interest amounts in two years to \(\unicode{x20B9} \)3932.6 and in three years to \(\unicode{x20B9} \)4168.52. Find the original sum.

Options:
A) 3500
B) 3200
C) 2800
D) 2700
Solution:

Difference in amounts = 4168.52-3932.6=235.92

Now, we see that Rs 235.92  is the interest on Rs 3932.6 in one year (it is either simple or compound interest because both are the same for a year)

Hence rate of interest = \(\cfrac{235.92\times 100}{3932.6}\)   = 6%(aprox)

Now original sum = 3932.6 = x(1+6/100)2

= 3932.6  or x(53/50)2

∴ x= (3932.6×50×50)/(53×53)= \(\unicode{x20B9} \)3500
