area BEA : AREA ADC

Question:

In a ∆ABC, D is the midpoint of line BC and E is the mid-point of AD. Then find the ratio of area of ∆BEA and ∆ADC.

Options:
A)

1 : 2

B)

1 : 4

C)

1 : 3

D)

1 : 6

Solution:

Ans: (a)

Let the area of ∆ABC = X units

AD is median,

Then,

Area of  ∆ABD =  12    × area of  ∆ABC

12     × x =  x2    units

E is midpoint of AD,

So,

BE is median.

Area of ∆BED = Area of ∆ BEA =  12    × ABD

Area of ∆BEA =  12    ×  x2     =  x4     units

Area of ∆BEA : Area of ∆ADC =  x4      :  x2

= 1 : 2
