how can down stream time is more.

Question:
A man can row down a stream 16 kms in 4 hrs and can return in 5\(\cfrac{1}{3}\) hrs. Find the rate at which man can row in still water.
Options:
A) 3 km/hrs
B) 3.5 km/hrs 
C) 2.5 km/hrs 
D) 4 km/hrs
Solution:
Ans: (b) 

Speed of the person in still water x = km/hr and speed of current = y km/hr

x + y = \(\cfrac{16}{4}\) = 4km/hrs

x – y = \(\cfrac{\cfrac{16}{16}}{3}\) = 3 km/hrs

on adding

2x = 7

  x = 3.5 km/hrs
