this may be x^2+1/x^2

Question:
If x + \(\cfrac{1}{x}\) = 2, x ≠ 0 then value of x2 + \(\cfrac{1}{x^3}\) is equal to:
Options:
A) 1
B) 2
C) 3
D) 4
Solution:

x + \(\cfrac{1}{x}\)= 2 ⇒ x2 + 1 = 2x

x2 – 2x + 1 = 0 (x – 1)2 = 0

⇒ x = 1

∴ x2 + \(\cfrac{1}{x^3}\) = 1 + 1 = 2
