After one year the age of all three persons will add 1+1+1=3 to the total sum;
hence it will become 57
57/3=19
And after three years it will contribute 3+3+3 =9 to the total sum of their ages; hence =63 and average will be 21.

The average age of husband and wife, who were married 5 years ago, was 22 years at the time of their marriage. Now the average age of family including husband, wife and a child (born during the interval) is 19 years. What is the present age of child?
Options:
A) 2 years
B) 1 year
C) 3 years
D) 4 years
Solution:
Ans: (c) 

Let the present age of the child = x years

Sum of the present ages of husband and wife = 2 × (22 + 5)  = 54 years

Sum of the present ages of the family members = 3 × 19 = 57 years 

ATQ,      54 + x = 57 years

                     x = 3 years

Present age of child = 3 years
