i think option 3 does not follow since it is possibility doubtful hence conclusion cannot be drawn

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the question below, there are few statements followed by few conclusions. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusion logically follow(s) from the given statements.

Statements:

No gin is vodka.

All rums are gins.

Some rums are not whiskeys.

Conclusions:

I. No rum is vodka.

II. Some rums are vodkas.

III. Some gins are not whiskeys.

IV. All gins are whiskeys.

Options:
A) Only I follows.
B) Only I and III follow
C) Only III follows
D) Either I or II follows.
Solution:

Ans:(b)The given statements can be represented in the following basic diagram as follows.

Conclusion I, negative, follows

Conclusion II, affirmative, does not follow.

Conclusion III, negative, follows.

Conclusion IV, affirmative, does not follow.

As the negative conclusion follows, let us try to negate through an alternate diagram.

The negation of I is “All gins are whiskeys”, and negation of III is “Some vodkas are gins”.

We cannot draw an alternate diagram for conclusion I and III, hence I and III follow,

∴ Only I and III follow
