Statement (b): Stone E weighs four and one-half times as much as stone F.

Statement (c): Stone F weighs half as much as stone G.

Statement (d): Stone G weighs half as much as stone H.

Statement (e): Stone H weighs less than stone D but more than stone F.

Based on the above statements, answer the following question.

Which of the numbered statements above is not necessary to determine the correct order of the stones according to their weights?

Options:
A) Statement 1
B) Statement 4
C) Statement 3
D) Statement 2
Solution:

Statement 5 is not necessary to determine the correct order of the stones according to their weights.

       Given,

\(\Rightarrow\)        D= 2E

\(\Rightarrow\)        E = 4.5 F

\(\Rightarrow\)        E= G

\(\Rightarrow\)        G = H

\(\Rightarrow\)        D > H > F

     Let        F’s Weight be p

     Then,     G’s Weight is 2p.

               H’s Weight is 4p.

               E’s Weight is 4.5 p

               D’s Weight is 9p

So, the order of weights can be D > E > H > G > F
