A number when divided by 18 leaves a remainder 7. The same number when divided by 12 leaves a remainder N. How many value of N take?

Solution:

Ans: (c)

Number which is divided by 18 and leaves remainder 7.

7, 25,43, 61, 79, ……….

After divide by 12 leaves Remainder

7, 1, 7, 1, 7, ………….

So, N = 2

If a number is divided by 18, leaves remainder 7 then number will be of the form 18*x+7.
Now write it 18*x+7=12*x+6*x+7.
Now if you divide this number by 12, remainders should come from 6*x+7. Try putting different values(integers) for x, say x=1, then the remainder is 1. If you take x=2, the remainder is 7. Answer 2 is correct because it is asking for different values of N i.e. 2. Because of N=1,7.
