In thiS Qs what is the meaning of new number and old number i.e, 15:11 is the ratio of which things?

Question:
The wages of labourers in a factory has increased in the ratio 22 : 25 and their number decreased in the ratio 15 : 11. What was the original wage bill of the factory if the present bill is Rs.5000?
Options:
A) Rs.5500
B) Rs.6000
C) Rs.7200
D) Rs.8000
Solution:

Ans: (B)

Ratio of old wages to new wages = 22 : 25

Ratio of old number to new number = 15 : 11

Ratio of their expense = 22 × 15 : 25 × 11 = 6 : 5

Present salary = Rs.5000

So, his original salary = \(\left (5000\times \cfrac {6}{5} \right )\)  = Rs.6000
