DIRECTIONS: In a class of 20 children, 7 likes English, 9 likes Math while 5 of them likes none of these two.
How many of them likes only one subject?
Options:
A) 8
B) 7
C) 14
D) 10
Solution:
Ans(d): 

Let circles E and M represents people who likes English and Math respectively.






Number of children who like English=A+B= 7 

Number of children who like Math = B+C = 9

Number of children who like at least one subject =n(A\(\cup\)B)= 20-5=15

we know that,

n(A\(\cup\)B)= n(A)+n(B)-n(A\(\cap\)B)

15=7+9-n(A\(\cap\)B)

Hence the number of children who like only one subject=20-5-1=14
