Question:
12 year old Manick is three times as old as his brother Rahul. How old will Manick be when he is twice as old as Rahul?
Options:
A) 14 years
B) 16 years 
C) 18 years
D) 20 years
Solution:

Present age of Manick = 12 years.

Then present age of Rahul = 4 years. (given)

After x years, Manicks age = 12 + x

After x years, Rahul’s age = 4 + x 

According to the question 

(12 + x) = 2(4 + x)

or, 12 + x = 8 + 2x

or, x = 4

Therefore, Required age of Manick = (12+ x) years

= (12 + 4) years

= 16 years
