Question:

A shopkeeper give 2 article free on the purchased of every 10 article he also allow a discount of 4% to customer and still earn 40% profit. Find the ratio of cost price to mark price of the article.

Options:
A)

7 : 4

B)

4 : 7

C)

6 : 7

D)

7 : 8

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let the Marked Price be 100

Given;

Discount = 4%

SP = MP X (100 - D%)

SP= 100 X \(\frac{96}{100}\)

SP = 96

SP of 12 article = 10 x 96

= 960 (2 article are free)

Find CP;

CP=\(\frac{SP \times100}{100\pm P%}\)

=\(\frac{960\times100}{140}\)

\(=\frac{4800}{7}\)

CP of one article=\(\frac{4800}{7\times12}\)

=\(\frac{400}{7}\)

Required ratio =CP : MP

= \(\frac{400}{7}\) : 100

= 4 : 7
