Question:
The population of a village is 20,000, of which one-fourth are females and the rest are males. 10% of males and 60% of females are uneducated. What percentage of the whole population is educated?
Options:
A) 50%
B) 75%
C) 77.5%
D) 82.5%
Solution:
Ans: (c) Number of females = 20,000 × \(\cfrac{1}{4}\) = 5,000

Number of males = 20,000 – 5,000 = 15,000

Number of educated females

= 5000 × \(\cfrac{40}{100}\) = 2000

Number of educated males

= 15000 × \(\cfrac{90}{100}\)  = 13500

Total educated population = 2000 + 13500 = 15500 

Percentage of educated population

= \(\cfrac{15500 × 100}{20000}\)     = 77.5%
