kindly explain in detail how and why
3x15= 20n-15

Question:

Ritesh has some marbles with him. He distributed them among his three friends Vikas, Priyanka & Gaurav in the ratio 15 : 17 : 20.Later each of the three gave 15 marbles to Ritesh, then the number of marbles with Ritesh & Gaurav equal. The total number of marbles with the four together is

Options:
A)

144

B) 156
C) 168
D) 180
Solution:

Ans. (b) Let Ritesh gave 15n, 17n & 20n to Vikas, Priyanka & Gaurav respectively. After the three gave 15 marbles each to Ritesh, the number of marbles with Ritesh

= 3 × 15 = 45

Given 3 × 15 = 20n – 15

⇒ 20n = 60

⇒ n = 3

Total number of marbles = (15 + 17 + 20) × 3 = 52 × 3 = 156

as Ritesh has distributed all marbles among the three persons,he will have no marbles left with him, he will only have those (15*3)=45 marbles which were given back to him. and no. of marbles of gaurav is equal to that of ritesh now, which the above equation represents.
