c should be the answer sir

Question:

In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect Speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct Speech and select your answer

She said, “How can I do such a foolish thing!”

Options:
A)

She wondered how she could do such a foolish thing.

B)

She thought how she could do such a foolish thing.

C)

She exclaimed that how she could do such a foolish thing.

D)

She exclaimed how could she do such a foolish thing.

Solution:

Here, the modal verb ‘can’ will be changed into ‘could’ while changing a direct statement into an indirect one. Now see, 'Exclamation' means a sudden cry or remark expressing surprise, wonder, strong emotion, or pain.

We can use both 'wonder' and 'exclaim' here but in the option 'c' where exclaim has been used, the conjunction 'that' is also used. Now, we cannot use two conjunctions ('that' and 'how') together. So, option 'c' cannot be our answer here.
