the answer of this question is 18 but there is no any option which contains 18

In the given figure, AB=30 cm and CD=24cm. What is the value (in cm) of MN?

Options:

Solution:

AB = 30cm

CD = 24cm

$\begin{matrix} A D = (\frac{A B - C D}{2}) + C D \\ = (\frac{30 - 24}{2}) + 24 \\ = 27 c m \end{matrix}$

Since the circle are concentric, the length of all tangents to the smaller circle will be equal.

Draw AE as tangent to smaller circle

$\begin{matrix} ∴ A E = 2 \sqrt{(A C \times A D)} = M N \\ = 2 \times \sqrt{3 \times 27} \\ A E = M N = 18 c m \end{matrix}$
