cant understand first step.,i think it must be 12.4(x+5)+26/(x+5)=12(x+5) ans :80

Question:
A man whose bowling average is 12.4, takes 5 wickets for 26 runs and there by decreases his average by 0.4. The number of wickets taken by him before his last match is?
Options:
A) 64
B) 72
C) 80
D) 85
Solution:
Ans: (d) Let He has taken x wickets before the match.

And runs given with the average 12.4, So total run given was,

= 12.4x
Runs given including this match,

12.4x+26 with the average of 12.

Now,
(12.4x+26)/(x+5) = 12
12.4x+ 26 = 12x + 60
0.4x= 34
x = 85 wickets

Dear student,

Check 2 more methods to solve this question:

Short Solution:
If wickets taken till last match=x, then total runs upto last match=12.4x
So (12.4x+26)/(x+5)=12.4-0.4=12
On solving, x=85

Long Solution:
Let He has taken X wickets before the match.
And runs given with the average 12.4, So total run given was,
= 12.4X
Runs given including this match,
12.4X +26 with the average of 12.
Now,
(12.4X+26)/(X+5) = 12
12.4X + 26 = 12X + 60
0.4X = 34
X = 85 wickets

We wish you all the best.
