We can also put helping verb with subject in these situations

Question:
DIRECTIONS: Fill in the blank with grammatically correct option. 

The candidate who got the job was as qualified as ____
Options:
A) Me
B) Mine
C) I am
D) Myself
Solution:
Ans: (c) I am

When the comparison is made by using as----as structure ,only the subjective form of pronoun is used.

The sentence is in past tense hence 'I am' will be correct.
