If Kapil celebrated his 5th birthday 8 years ago, he must be 13 years old now. Why is it 12 yrs in the calculation?

Question:
The present age of Romila is one-fourth of that of her father. After 6 years the father’s age will be twice the age of Kapil. If Kapil celebrated fifth birth day 8 years ago, What is Romils’s present age?
Options:
A) 7 years.
B) 7.5 years.
C) 8 years.
D) 8.5 years.
Solution:

Present age of Kapil = 13 years

After 6 years,

Kapil'sage will be 19 years.

So, present age of Kapil's father=38-6=32

Hence, Romila's present age =\(\frac{1}{4}\times 32\) = 8 years


ALTERNATE SOLUTION-


In six years Father will be twice the age of Kapil, who is 13 (5years old 8 years ago). 

He will be 19 in six years, thus father will be 38 in six years, so father is currently 32 years old. Romila is one fourth Father's age, so Romila is 8 years old.

So, Romila is 8 years old.
