option b and d are same

Question:

The average age of x boys and y girls is p. If the average age of boys is r, then the average age of girls is:

Options:
A) \(p+\cfrac{x^2(r-p)}{y}\) year
B) \(p-\cfrac{x^3(r-p)}{y}\) year
C) \(p-\cfrac{x^4(p-r)}{y}\) year
D) \(p+\cfrac{x(p-r)}{y}\) year
Solution:
Ans: (d) Total age of boys & girls = (x + y)p

Total age of boys = x.r

\(\therefore \) Total age of girls = (x + y)p – x.r

\(\therefore\) Average age of girls = \(\cfrac{(x+y)p-xr}{y}\)

\(=\cfrac{p\ x+py-xr}{y}=p+\cfrac{x(p-r)}{y}\)
