Ans: (a) UNIX is an operating system which was first developed in the 1960s. By operating system, we mean the suite of programs which make the computer work. It is a stable, multi-user, multi-tasking system for servers, desktops and laptops.

Dear Student,

operating system is the low-level software that supports a computer's basic functions, such as scheduling tasks and controlling peripherals.

For operating systems you need to work really low-level. And that is a pain in Java. You do need e.g. unsigned data types, and Java only has signed data types. You need struct objects that have exactly the memory alignment the driver expects (and no object header like Java adds to every object).
