Why multiple with 20?

Question:

How many two letter words can be formed using only consonants of English alphabets but each only once?

Options:
A) 420
B) 41
C) 6
D) 216
Solution:

There are only 21 consonants in English alphabet. 


Hence, the required number of words = 21 x 20  = 420

Dear Student,
We have two places to put alphabets and both should be consonants.
There are 21 consonants.
So first place can be filled in 21 ways and as repetition is not allowed so 2nd place is filled in 20 ways .
So total ways = 21*20 = 420
