please provide the detailed solution of the question

Question:

If two pipes function simultaneously, the reservoir is filled in 12 hrs. One pipe fills the reservoir 10 hours faster than the other. How many hours does the faster pipe take to fill the reservoir?

Options:
A)

20 hrs.

B)

30 hrs.

C)

35 hrs.

D)

45 hrs.

Solution:

Ans: (a) Let the faster pipe fills the tank in x hrs.

Then the slower pipe fills the tank in x + 10 hrs.

In 12 hrs. it is filled completely,

But as x can’t be -ve, hence the faster pipe will fill the reservoir in 20 hrs.

Dear student
The given solution is appropriate,
both pipe will fill the tank in 1 hour = 1/x + 1/(10+x)=1/2
or x² -14x -120=0
=x =20 hrs
please solve carefully.
