Question:

In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.

"I always drink warm water in the morning," she said to me.

Options:
A)

She said to me that she always drinks warm water in the morning.

B)

She said to me she always drank warm water in the morning.

C)

She said to me she always drinks warm water in the morning.

D)

She said to me that she always drank warm water in the morning.

Solution:

Reporting verb is ‘said’ and it is in past, hence the tense of reported speech will be changed according to past. So, present indefinite tense will be changed into past indefinite tense. Hence drink will be changed into drank and I into she.
