a:b:c =a:c:: b:c
60:75:: 75:100

Question:

 In what ratio must a person mix three kinds of tea costing Rs. 60/kg, Rs. 75/kg and Rs. 100/kg so that the resultant mixture when sold at Rs. 96/kg. yield a profit of 20%?

Options:
A)

 1:1:4

B)

 1:4:2

C)

 1:4:1

D)

 1:2:4

Solution:

 S.P. = 96

Profit = 20%

So C.P. = 80

Now

60100   80  20 201 :1  75100   80   20 5 4:1

So 60 Rs./kg : 75 Rs./kg : 100 Rs./kg = 1:4:2

1 portion of rs. 60
4 portions of rs. 75
and 2 portions (1 each of rs. 100)
The ratios are to be added as we are mixing them to form final product.
