Question:
In a family, the father takes \(\cfrac{1}{4}\) of the cakes, the remaining cake is distributied equally among the remaining members of the family. If the father gets 4 times as much as the other members of the family get, then total members in the family are :
Options:
A) 9
B) 10
C) 12
D) 13
Solution:
Ans: (d)

Share of father = \(\cfrac{1}{4}\)

Remaining share = 1-\(\cfrac{1}{4}=\cfrac{3}{4}\)

Shre of every other members of the family

= \(\frac{1}{4}\times\frac{1}{4}=\cfrac{1}{16}\)

\(\therefore\) Other members in the family = \(\cfrac{3}{4}\div\cfrac{1}{16}= \cfrac{3}{4}\times \cfrac{16}{1}=12\)

\(\therefore\) Total members in the family = 1 + 12 = 13

Dear Student,
1/ 16 is the share of each member of the family except father.
And total share of all other members is 3/4
So number of members = (3/4) /(1/16) = 12
So total members = 12+1=13
