If a + \(\cfrac{1}{a}\) = 1, then the value of a3 is: 
Options:
A) -2
B) 2
C) -1
D) 4
Solution:

a + \(\cfrac{1}{a}\)= 1 ⇒ a – 1 = - \(\cfrac{1}{a}\)

⇒ a2 + 1 = a

⇒ a2 = a – 1 ⇒ a3 = a(a - 1) = a(-\(\cfrac{1}{a}\)) = -1
