Question:

A person bought 5 tickets from a station A to B and 10 tickets from the station A to C. He paid Rs.350. If the sum of a ticket from A to B and a ticket from A to C is Rs.42, then what is the fare from A to B?

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let the fare from A to B = x

from A to C = y

x + y = 42

5x + 10y = 350

x + 2y = 70, x + y = 42

x = 14, y = 28

So, fare from A to B is 14.
