Question:

The price of three types of items A, B and C are respectively Rs.5, Rs.6 and Rs.8 per 100 gm. In what ratio should they be mixed so that the price of the mixture is Rs.68 per kg?

Options:
A)

1 : 9 : 9

B)

3 : 4 : 9

C)

2 : 9 : 9

D)

9 : 9 : 4

Solution:

Ans: (c)

Let x gm of A, y gm of B and z gm of C are mixed.

Total quantity of the mixture = (x + y + z)

Total cost of the mixture = 0.068(x + y + z)

Now, ATQ,  0.05x + 0.06y + 0.08z = 0.068(x + y + z)

0.12z = 0.18x + 0.0y

6z = 9x + 4y

By hit and trial method, we see x = 2, y = 3, z = 5 and x = 1, y = 4.5, z = 4.5

According to the question,

Ratio = 2 : 9 : 9
