ANY SHORTCUT TO BYPASS 2 VARIABLE EQUATION??

Question:

A number is divided into two parts such that the 80% of the first part is 3 more than the 60% of the second part and the 80% of the second part is 6 more than the 90% of the first part. Find the number.

Options:
A) 125
B) 135
C) 130
D) 145
Solution:
Ans: (b) Let the first part be x and second part be y.

Thus, number = x + y

A.T.Q.,

80% of x = 60% of y + 3

8x – 6y = 30.............(i)

A.T.Q.,

80% of y = 90% of x + 6

8y – 9x = 60...............(ii)

On solving (i) & (ii), we get :

x = 60 & y = 75

Thus, number = 60 + 75 = 135
