in the ques it is mentioned it amounts to 300 and to 400 but in the solution it is taken as interest.
so there is an error in the solution.
amounts to 300 means amount is 300 not interest is 300

Question:

Prem invested a certain sum of money in a simple interest. It amounts to Rs 300 at the end of 3 year and to Rs 400 at the end of 8 year. What was the rate of interest in which he invested his sum?

Options:
A) 12%
B) 24%
C) 6.67%
D) 8.33%
Solution:
Ans:(d) Let principal be P and rate of interest be r%

then \(\cfrac{P×r×3}{100}+ P = 300\).......(i)

At the end of another 5 years means 3+5=8 years.

\(\cfrac{P×r×8}{100}+ P = 400\).........(ii)

On Subtracting Eq. (i) from Eq. (ii)

\(\cfrac{P×r×5}{100}= 100\)

\(∴ P × r = 2,000\)

From Eq (i),

\(\cfrac{2000×3}{100}+ P = 300 ∴ P = \unicode{x20B9} 240 \)

240 × r = 2000
r = 8.33%
