I have a doubt (Question:185902.2)

Here the opt I think should be correct

Question:

Options:
A) attempted to acquaint
B) attempts at acquainting
C) attempt to acquaint
D) no improvement 
Solution:
Ans: (b) Out of the given options, only the option (B) can replace the underlined part, as with "attempt" correct preposition is "at".
