the explanation you have given in the bottom is not reliable and not acceptable. i have calculated and the result is same as i have attempted. please check the question and answer.

Question:
A lady runs 12 km -towards North then 6 km towards South and then 8 km towards East. How far is she from her starting point and in which direction? 
Options:
A) 5 km North-East 
B) 5 km East 
C) 10 km North-East 
D) 10 km West 
Solution:

By Pythagoras theorem

(H)2 = (P)2 + (B)2

= (6)2 + (8)2

= 36+64

= 100

H = 10 km

North-east , 10 km
