DIRECTIONS: Answer the questions based on the information given below.

A cube is divided into eight equal small cubes. Each of these small cube is further sub-divided into eight equal smaller cubes.

What is the surface area of the smallest cube as a fraction of the surface area of the original cube?

0.0625

0.0156

0.0039

Solution:

Ans: (b)

Let side of original cube be 100 units.

Then side of the smallest cube is 25 units.

Surface area of the largest cube = 6 ${(100)}^{2}$

Surface area of the smallest cube = 6 ${(25)}^{2}$

$∴$ Ratio of this surface area is

$\frac{25^{2}}{100^{2}}$ = $\frac{1}{16}$ = 0.0625
