Sum of two children is 4 and the difference is 2, then how can the elder one be of 3 years ? It should be 2 instead, if i am not wrong

Question:
The average age of a family of 5 persons, 5 years back was 25 years. Due to birth of two children, the average age of the family now is 22 years. If the age difference between the two children is 2 years. The age of elder child is —
Options:
A) 3
B) 5
C) 7
D) 9
Solution:

Ans: (a)

5 years ago, sum of ages of 5 members = 5 × 25 = 125 years

Today their ages = 5 × 5 = 25 and 25 + 125 = 150 years

Sum of 7 members = 22 × 7 = 154 years

Sum of two children = 4 years

Difference of two children = 2 years

Age of elder child = 3 years
